I know the job he can do – Guardiola has no doubt Arteta can turn things around at Arsenal

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has backed former colleague Mikel Arteta to turn things around at Arsenal following the Gunners worst start to a league campaign.

Ten-man Arsenal fell to a 5-0 defeat to City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to make it three losses in a row without scoring to begin their Premier League season.

The Gunners are only the second team in Premier League history to have zero points and a goal difference of minus nine from their first three games, after Wolves in 2003-04.

Wolves finished bottom of the table that season, and that is the position Arsenal found themselves in following their latest humiliating league loss at the hands of City.

Arteta is under increasing pressure heading into the first international break of 2021-22…

Sevilla confirm Navas departure

Sevilla have confirmed Jesus Navas has played his last game for the club and will sign for English Premier League side Manchester City.

While exact details of the transfer fee and length of Navas contract remain unclear, the 27-year-old right forward is set to become Manuel Pellegrini s first signing at Manchester City, as the Chilean manager looks to reboot the 2011/12 Premier League champions.

Navas, who is sixth on the list of players with the most appearances for Sevilla (395 matches), will join only his second professional club after 10 seasons with the southern Spanish outfit.

In an official release on Monday, Sevilla paid tribute to the diminutive winger, hailing his dribbling ability with impossible rhythm changes , while also reminiscing about the crucia…

Final a triumph in itself given Croatia´s off-field turmoil

Croatia s run to the World Cup final was a sensational achievement given their regular brushes with turmoil, but the 4-2 defeat to France surely ends something of a golden generation for the nation.

Zlatko Dalic s men are not a surprise package because of the players thay have available, or the small size of their population. No, their charge to Moscow was a shock because of what they have been through in the last year.

On October 7 in 2017, the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) decided to take drastic decision, sacking coach Ante Cacic following a 1-1 draw with Finland, leaving the team in a tense position with just one group game remaining in qualifying.

Zlatko will lead the team in the crucial game against Ukraine and we are hoping for a positive outcom…

FIFA is backing the decisions to move Euro 2020 and the Copa America to next year amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Donovan named MLS MVP

Los Angeles Galaxy and USA forward Landon Donovan was named the 2009 Major League Soccer s Most Valuable Player on Thursday.

Donovan, the United States all-time leading scorer, helped the Galaxy reach Sunday s MLS Cup final, the club s first appearance in the championship match since 2005.

Despite all the accolades he has earned, this is the first time Donovan has garnered the MLS MVP.

Donovan scored 12 goals during the regular season, helping the Galaxy rally for the best record in the Western Conference.

During the playoffs, Donovan scored twice in the Galaxy s first-round series victory over Los Angeles rivals Chivas USA, and scored a penalty in extra time against Houston in their 2-0 conference final victory last Friday.

City targets Ajax back Van der Wiel

(GSM) Gregory van der Wiel s outstanding performances this season have drawed Manchester City s attention. City scouts have been tracking the Ajax right back during matches of both his club and the Netherlands national team.

There has been no official contact between Ajax and Manchester City, Van der Wiel s agent Hakim Slimani told Dutch magazine Voetbal International. But I can t deny that his performances are being followed closely by Manchester City.

Van der Wiel extended his contract with Ajax in January 2009. His deal with the Amsterdam side expires in June 2013. That s the reason why a transfer to another club isn t on his mind, Slimani added. He only made his breakthrough in the Eredivisie last year.

His goal for this year is to become a key player f…

´I´ll stay as long as the club wants me´ – Martinez commits to Atletico

Jackson Martinez has vowed to stay at Atletico Madrid for as long as he is wanted, after an inauspicious start to his career at Vicente Calderon.

The Colombia striker moved to the 2013-14 Liga champions in the off-season, following a prolific spell for Porto which saw him net 67 goals in 90 Primeira Liga appearances.

However, Martinez has struggled in the early months of his time at Atletico, scoring just three times in 15 games across all competitions.

Martinez s form has led some to suggest he could look for a move away at the end of the season, but he is determined to prove himself.

That [whether he will leave] is a question you need to ask the coach, Martinez told La Sexta.

I try and work hard in every game. I m trying to adapt bit by bit b…

Robben confident Guardiola will succeed at Manchester City

Bayern Munich attacker Arjen Robben is confident Pep Guardiola will succeed at Manchester City and believes you can already see the Spaniard s handwriting at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola left Bayern for City after the 2015-16 campaign and made an impressive start to life at the Premier League side.

Several high-profile defeats then led to criticism of the 46-year-old, but Robben does not expect his former boss to fail in Manchester.

I am not worried about Pep at all, Robben told The Independent.

I know his philosophy. I know the way he thinks about football and I also know the Premier League, as I have played there for three years, so I know, with all the teams that are in it, it is very, very difficult.

Every game is a new battle but what I c…

´I agreed, he had to make changes´ – Shaw ´accepted´ being dropped by Ten Hag at Man Utd

Luke Shaw had no grievances about being dropped by Manchester United in August, even agreeing that Erik ten Hag needed to change something.

Shaw started United s first two Premier League games of the season, defeats to Brighton and Hove Albion and then Brentford.

The 4-0 loss to Brentford meant United finished a day bottom of the Premier League table for the first time in 30 years – 1992 was also the last time United had begun a league season with back-to-back defeats.

Shaw and Harry Maguire were the ones to pay the heaviest price. Neither has started any of the four league games since, all of which United won, while the left-back has not played a single minute in those games.

Despite a lack of action, both players featured for England during their two …
