Bayern confirm Shaqiri signing

Bayern Munich have completed the summer transfer of Xherdan Shaqiri from Basel for an undisclosed fee.

The Switzerland international has signed a four-year deal with Bayern, and will join his new club at the end of the current season.

The Bavarians had long been in the market for attacking reinforcements, and were previously believed to be interested in signing Borussia Moenchengladbach star Marco Reus.

However, they turned their attention to Shaqiri after Reus made the decision to join Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

The 20-year-old Shaqiri travelled to Germany earlier this week to undergo his medical, and the winger has now signed a deal until June 2016.

We are very pleased that we have managed to sign one of the most sou…

Portugal 2 Wales 0: Ronaldo shines to book final spot

Cristiano Ronaldo was instrumental as Portugal reached the Euro 2016 final, ending Wales incredible run with a 2-0 win in Lyon.

The pre-match talk had centred on Ronaldo s showdown with Real Madrid team-mate Gareth Bale and it was the Portuguese who shone as his side took another step towards assuaging the pain of their defeat in the 2004 final.

Ronaldo leapt imperiously to head in a 50th-minute opener – equalling Michel Platini s record of nine goals at European Championships – and had the shot that Nani steered home to extend Portugal s advantage just three minutes later.

That quickfire double brought to life a semi-final that had until then been a largely cagey affair, with Bale having marginally the better of the first-half head-to-head against his c…

Juan demands more from Inter

Inter must improve next season to end their three-year absence from the UEFA Champions League, defender Juan Jesus has warned.

Roberto Mancini s side have not competed in Europe s elite club competition since 2011-12, and look unlikely to qualify for continental football next season after another disappointing campaign.

Inter go into the final match of the Serie A season against Empoli in eighth place, something that Juan knows cannot continue given the grand history of the club.

Next year we ll start with a strong team to win the Coppa Italia and the Scudetto, he said.  We ll try to finish the season well on Sunday, then start off well next year.

We can t make mistakes anymore, we ve been out of the Champions League for too long.

We have to…

Barcelona want Isak

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Borussia Dortmund forward Alexander Isak is a wanted man with Barcelona being interested in acquiring his services. At the age of just 19 he already seems to have quite a reputation for himself, as one of the brightest young forwards in Europe today. He is currently on loan at Willem II and has a 10 goals in 10 record, which is the primary reason why Barca are so invested in the idea of signing him. Isak also made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2017, and is expected to be the next leading forward for his country for many years to come.

Barca are known to be in the market for a new forward, with many tipping Isak to be the replacement for Luis Suarez.

Isak made the move to Dortmund back in 2017, when he joine…

Tuchel offers no guarantees over Draxler future amid Arsenal, Leeds United links

Thomas Tuchel believes Julian Draxler can develop into an important player for Paris Saint-Germain, but he offered no guarantees the attacker would stay at the club.

Linked with a move, Draxler was the hero for PSG on Wednesday, scoring a 93rd-minute winner in a 1-0 victory over Metz in Ligue 1.

After back-to-back losses to begin the Ligue 1 season, it marked an important win for PSG, who were without Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

While PSG coach Tuchel feels Draxler can become key for PSG, he said there were no guarantees for the Germany international amid links to Arsenal and Leeds United.

It s football, we can t guarantee anything. During the transfer window, we can t guarantee things because maybe the next day things will be different, he said after the …

Romero lauds caring Van Gaal

Sergio Romero lauded Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, after linking up with the Dutchman for the second time in his career.

After 72 league appearances with Sampdoria from 2011-15, Romero signed a three-year deal, which the Manchester club announced on Sunday.

Romero previously was in goal under Van Gaal at AZ from 2007-09, and the Argentine said it was that Eredivisie stint that catapulted his career in the right direction.

Van Gaal and Romero celebrated winning the Dutch top flight title in 08-09, while the keeper had the equal-most clean sheets at the 2014 World Cup helping the Argentinians to the final in Brazil.

Now 28, Romero said he feels comfortable under the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss.

He is a great manager, the Arg…

Solskjaer challenges Man Utd to back up PSG win

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer challenged Manchester United to show they had improved by backing up their win over Paris Saint-Germain.

United recorded a 2-1 Champions League win in Paris on Tuesday in a boost ahead of hosting Chelsea.

The Premier League giants also stunned PSG in March last year, but then won just two of their final 12 games of the 2018-19 season.

Solskjaer, whose team are 15th in the table after collecting just six points from four games, said he was eager to see United had improved since then.

For me, now we need consistency, the United manager told reporters.

We ve been too up and down. We need to address the home form and for me, the next week is a great test for us because we all remember what happened after the last time we beat PS…
